The monument depicts a bronze statue of King Mongkut in naval uniform, seated on a chair. This is the same uniform he wore when he went to Waghor. The statue is one and a half times larger than his actual size, depicting him turning his face towards the east by the sea. The monument is located at the spot believed to be the site of King Mongkut's royal campwhen the King went to see the solar eclipse together with a French astronomer and foreign diplomats on August 18th, 1868. On September 14th, 1982, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn laid the foundation stone of this monument. |
