The King Mongkut Science Park at Waghor in Prachuab Khiri Khan Province was established with the intention of honouring King Mongkut, who has been commended as the "Father of Thai Science". The Park has played a role in developing the scientific and technological capacity of the country with the objectives of:
• Instilling in Thai people an awareness of King Mongkut's benevolence to the nation and a sense of pride in the King's talent since, as the "Father of Thai Science," he pioneered the study of Astronomy and Science in Thailand, • Organizing and providing academic services in science, technology and the environment to students, from both inside and outside the formal schooling system, and the general public, • Conducting study and research, as well as developing activities, curricula, media and learning processes in science, technology and the environment, for example, Marine Science, Astronomy and the appropriate technology, • Publicizing and providing services concerning activities, curricula, media and processes of organizing learning activities in science, technology and the environment, • Developing lecturers, teachers, resource personnel and personnel in education who will be responsible for organizing learning activities in science, technology and the environment, • Promoting, supporting and coordinating with affiliated networks in organizing learning activities in science, technology and the environment, • Promoting and developing the King Mongkut Science Park at Waghor in Prachuasb Khiri Khan Province as a tourist site, • Serving as a tourist site in science, technology and the environment as well as a recreational centre, • Performing other duties as assigned. |
